Following the release of Malaysia’s own version of Facebook in January this year, it seems Malaysians are getting creative with localisation and adaptation of famous International web services.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, our version of Youtube – a local platform to promote videos to the “micro community” of Malaysia.
The naming of 1Tube, just like 1Malaysia.com, is based on the current political slogan of “1Malaysia” designed by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, which calls for ethnic harmony.
According to WebRank Stats, 1Tube.my was created just in March 2011 by TL Satellite Communications Sdn. Bhd. based in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
It started to create a buzz at the end of April 2011.
Currently, 1Tube has an Alexa rank of 90,473, which is rather impressive considering it is barely two months that it has hit the Malaysian online scene.
The video community is currently hosted with Exabyte and the video loading speed is quite impressive. It promises 500MB video upload without time limit.
While 1Tube is a promising project with it already registering over 2,000 users, it is likely going to face some copyright issues as it grows.
Copyright issues had plagued YouTube since a year after its launch in 2005 and this forced Youtube to remove most of its professionally content.
Youtube has also been sued several times for copyright infringement.
