Bugger Edison Chen is still dominating online and offline entertainment news and people are overreacting to his case. Come on lah there are better things to focus on, such as our social issues and Malaysian Election 2008.
Focusing on some dumbobrities (don’t copy hor, I coined this term Jan 30, 08) won’t change the current state of Malaysia right now. Most people of my age (or younger) do not bother about elections and politics. Below are the two most frequent replies from such ignorant people, which are a cliche and a bore to me already.
- “I’m not interested in politics lah.”
- “Don’t need to vote lar. The country is already so peaceful, we don’t have earthquakes, we have food to eat, we have pirated VCD’s to watch, we have Petronas Twin Tower to show off, we have the longest roti tisu… So why go and change things?”
In response to the first reply: maybe you need to get robbed to be able to understand why politics mean a lot to you as a citizen.
As for the second one, remember that voting does not mean existing governmental policies will be drastically overridden by new ones and that harmony will erode. Similarly, opposition parties to obtain more seats does not mean they will become the ruling party.
At least not at this stage where Malaysians still generally do not have very high media literacy to to counter back any government claims.
In fact it will be even more beneficial for citizens if opposition parties could obtain a greater parliamentary and state assembly seats because this will enable check and balance between the ruling and opposition parties. So why would it be a thing to worry about when it actually increases social and economic benefits!
A country with no alternative power will most likely result in a single party trying to do things in favour of their own agenda. So if you have an indifferent attitude towards politics, maybe you will need to read and see more because it WILL affect your future in every single way.
