Mr. Definite is not really definite after all. Not when having to give title to a blog that daringly takes a two-genre approach to communicate with two different types of audience.
First I called it… *ahem*
“mrdefinite.com – It’s hot!”
And that was when this blog was still a personal one.
Towards the end of 2008 when MrDefinite.com had successfully found its niche, the blog title was desperately changed to “mrdefinite.com – It’s money-makin’ hot!”.
LAME.
It was poor SEO for a title and poor title for SEO.
Sometime in Jan 2008, blog title was deliberately changed to a more SEO-friendly “Exposing SEO techniques, money-making tips & tricks”, followed by “SEO, Money Tips Exposed like Paris Hilton – Make Money Online at Home”.
After much consideration a few days ago, I decided that the last title was overused, unoriginal, boring, and unable to also describe the personal side (MrDefinite.com Personal, what else?) of this blog.

So here we go, yet another title: “Money Isn’t Really My Middle Name”. A friend of mine said this title makes people wonder, and I think it’s true because I was making even myself wonder.
Haha!
I hate it when the title has to sound very serious (albeit SEO-friendly). It feels as though I am restricted to only MMO topics and MMO topics alone.
Maybe no one else has really done this before me — I’m not sure, but I’m proud to tell people that MrDefinite.com is mainly about MMO topics and partly about my life — all presented in a very organised manner.
Therefore I want a blog title that can best describe the double nature of this site, while at the same time being a bit less serious and giving it some homour plus illogicality.
So is the new title yay or nay?

Having established a website you certainly do care about its popularity and try to fulfill all possible techniques to get the most fruitful result. The same thing happens with blogs — after you have started up one your next step is to make it friendly to readers as well as to search engines.

But common search engine optimisation (SEO) strategies which appear to be good for websites are not actually enough to promote your blog in the best way.
That is why I’d like to speak about main ways of building web traffic particularly to your blog. We will touch upon five main blog SEO techniques which include directory submissions, blog pinging, building links to your blog, writing articles and managing your blog subscriptions.
After your blog is published successfully it is high time to start submitting it and its RSS feed to well known web directories, such as Yahoo, Gimpsy, Dmoz and others. There is a list of directories with high PageRank (PR) and stats which use “dofollow” links allowing you to promote your blog in the best way.
As a rule you need to provide some extra information about your blog, i.e. titles, descriptions and tags, which is the prerequisite for creating an exclusive directory and thus getting the most out of the submission.
Let us identify every aspect separately.
1. Titles
The titles you insert while submitting your blog should be various as they become the anchor links which take the viewers to your blog. That is why making use of the same anchor link won’t bring you much success while different titles will help your site look unique within directory lists.
There is nothing difficult in creating alternate titles — just think of the words you want to rank for and try to mix them within the title for it to sound laconic but at the same time informative enough to attract viewers to your content.
2. Keywords
A well known procedure of adding keywords in submission process is quite simple – insert keywords which are related to your blog and other necessary ones you wish to rank for, and search engines will pick up your site.
3. Description
As a rule your blog description consists of 250 and more words, and includes the most important information about your site and its content. Try to make this short presentation interesting and catchy, and don’t forget to use keywords within your blog description also.
4. Categories
Submitting your blog you are asked to choose a category or a few of them which will fit your site content best. Do it carefully as your blog may become a useful source for those who are interested in some particular topic, and being added to the wrong category it will just get lost and hardly become an attended place.

Another question which interests a lot of webmasters concerns directory submission frequency. How many times you should submit for it to be enough? Actually no restrictions should worry you. Some directories accept your link in a day or two, some in a week and with others it may take even up to a year for your blog to be submitted. So don’t limit yourself with a number of submissions and do as you think fit.
In case you don’t want to occupy yourself with directory submission because of time lack or any other reasons there is always an opportunity to find someone who will do it for you. For example, you can visit webmaster forums and make an offer requiring submission service for a certain amount.
As a rule, there is always a submitter who is eager to earn. Or there is another way which implies making use of special software for semi-automatic or automatic submission, such as AllSubmitter which is really time saving and will automatically submit any form for you being good at guessing captchas, or Fast Directory Submitter which allows to set up multiple titles and descriptions and add keywords with automatic selection of the category based on them.

Making a conclusion I’d like to say that the procedure of submitting your blog to web directories is rather simple but still requires attention and taking certain techniques into action in order to achieve the most successful result and spread your blog through the Internet.
This is only the first part which was dedicated to blog directory submissions as one of the main steps on the way to your blog popularity. In my next post I will touch upon the issue of blog pinging and consider its part in making your blog more attended source.
