Apple Effect on Media Consumption
There is a good chance that at this very moment you are listening to music on iTunes while reading this blog.
You can thank the people at Apple for the public’s ability to simultaneously listen to the latest Nickelback record while watching NASCAR on your computer. Meanwhile a savvy professional can checkĀ business VoIP providers while checking out the latest NASDAQ quotes.
By having a keen grasp on the media we consume, Steve Jobs was able to turn a struggling company into a media juggernaut that almost everyone in the world relies on for entertainment.
Here are some of the ways Apple transformed the way we consume media:
Music
It is a no-brainer that the iPod revolutionized the way we consume music. Before its inception, people carried around bulky Walkmans and CD players that relied on physical media in order to play music.

iTunes and the iPod changed the way we bought music and allowed us to carry around our entire music library.
Movies
Just like iTunes changed the way we think about purchasing music, it also changed the way we purchased movies. The DVD was a huge deal before the film industry realized they could sell their product digitally instead of relying on physical copies to sell.
This reduced the amount of clutter in people’s homes and made going to the video store in order to see the latest releases a thing of the past.

Radio
When signing into the iTunes Store, there are always thousands of Podcasts available to stream or download.
With major radio stations becoming more streamlined and managed by only a handful of major corporations, it has become next to impossible for anyone to break into a career on the radio. Podcasts give aspiring talk radio stars a chance to voice their opinions and elaborate on any topic they choose.
Boredom in General
In order to play quality video games in the past, people had to sit at home and wait for elaborate machines to load.
Today, anyone with an iPhone can play Angry Birds or Gravity Man while standing in line at the grocery store, waiting at the doctor’s office, or dictating a message to a hosted VoIP PBX.

While conducting mundane tasks or waiting, you can do pretty much any task at hand with an iPhone.
Every way you keep yourself entertained has been transformed by the masterminds in Silicon Valley. If you think that artists, actors, and personalities are the only ones determining the media you digest, stop and think about the power behind the throne.
