You are reading an MD 2.0 (make money online) entry.
And this time I am not punished. Instead PR of this site has gone up from a 2 to 3!

Awesomeness!
Remember I said I was penalised to a PR0 some two years ago during Chritmas month? I gained back my PR3 in July 2008 before getting penalised AGAIN to a PR2 for whatever reason during the following Christmas month.
Nabeh!
If that wasn’t enough for me, this site was later degraded to a PR1 in January 2009 for no obvious reasons.
It took me four months to regain back the PR3 position.
Oklah, I know some of you are probably gonna say content is still king. I agree but a higher PR is definitely a plus.

y are you being punished by google last time? how you know de? mind to share?
By Kenneth "Definite" Lee on Jul 17, 2009 | Reply
Hi Viya, I got penalised for writing paid posts in 2007, that’s why. I had since removed all paid posts.
Changes in PR after penalisation were def due to other reasons other than paid posts.
By Viya on Jul 18, 2009 | Reply
How on earth Google know there’re paid post?
By Kenneth "Definite" Lee on Jul 18, 2009 | Reply
LOL, Google is WAY smarter than we thought. Most of the times Google is very and strict with and accurate in determining paid posts/links.

Yes, Google seems to be getting very smart indeed. On a slightly separate note, have you noticed how often Google is updating page rank these days?

Great u won your PR back….!
But why you keep loosing it? when you know all the rules of the Google you should strictly follow them.Because Gaining & loosing of PR will not help you gain good name in long run.SO beware this time.

Congrats on getting your PR back up to 3. One of my sites dropped to PR0
By Kenneth "Definite" Lee on Jul 21, 2009 | Reply
Ste, yes, Google now updates PR like every other day, it’s no longer like last time where we used to have a massive PR update every three months.
Jack, I don’t even know why I keep losing it. FYI, I haven’t been written paid posts or had any paid links since I was last punished. I even add the “nofollow” value to the link of any website I find less credible.
CSL, sorry to hear that. Hopefully you will gain back your PR.

PR Updates again?? It was too fast man. Anyway, my blog still remain PR3 for few months already.
Congrats on your PR3! Anyway, PR is not that important, but search engine ranking is.

Lee

Yes Ka Hoong, Google now updates PR every now and then. Thanks anyways! And yes, I agree than search engine ranking is so very important, as your traffic very much depends upon the rank.

Its really great that you have gained a hike in PR for your blog.Even we have gained PR for our blog for the first time.PR update was really unexpected as Google had crawled for PR recently in the month of June.It is said that PR is just one of the many factors in determining the ranking of a site, but as we get an increase in PR ,we get excited .It is human tendency as everyone wants a good PR

PR penalty is better than ranking penalty hehe. One of my site has PR3 but doesn’t even rank for its domain name haha.
By Amber from Florida Personals on Jul 26, 2009 | Reply
Yes content is king but like you said PR does help and is a factor on rankings.

Congrats on getting your PR back to where you feel it should be at. I didn’t notice any PR change on my website, nor the ones I normally visit, so I didn’t even know there was a recent update on PR, considering that it wasn’t that long ago since we’ve had one, lol.
Till then,
Jean

I gotta be honest and say that PR is no big thing. It always appeals to our ego but in reality? I have a client with a PR5 site which gets about 3 visits a day. I\’d rather have one of my PR0 sites which gets more than a 1,000.
By used tires on Jul 28, 2009 | Reply
Mike…. PR will not determine your success or how much traffic you are going to receive, but the higher the PR you have, the more likely you are going to rank naturally on the search engines for the terms you are targeting. Because PR is a reflect of your backlink power, and how much authority your website has. If you ever look at the search results, for whatever term you are searching for, you will notice a pattern, and you will more than likely not see a PR 0 at the top ranking.
It’s not an Ego thing, and yes PR is important.
Till then,
Jean

Does the drop in PR effect your site placement in google searches?
By John on Aug 26, 2010 | Reply
PR is just a vague measure, a visual representation of how Google thinks your site is doing based on many factors. It is not your true PR, only Google know this. However it is a nice indicator on how well you are doing with your site. Dont lose too much sleep over it though.

Google PR is not the holy grail of SEO that some people think. I know many SEO professionals who dont even take it into consideration. Just add quility content to your site and Google will award you in time.
Keep up the good work.
