Previously I talked about how a site could rank high on Google search, of which streategies include inserting relevant tags, building backlinks, adding new content, and so forth.
However, in order to stay relevant on search engine results pages (SERP’s) in today’s context, it now takes more than the aforementioned search engine optimisation (SEO) streategies.
Google is now taking consideration into bounce rates, search behavior, time a visitor spends on a site, and many other factors to rank a site.
While there were only about 128 factors in deciding a site’s ranking back in the days when SEO was still young — as according to Moola Days, it now takes more than 200 factors!
Matt Cutts on Changes at Google
Although many of the factors are kept hush-hush from Big Google, one thing we know very well is that Google wants to retain quality sites. There are too many sites that clog up the search engine results which google is trying to do away.
A few months back, Google started introducing the new, updated version of its search engine known as Google Caffeine – a new technology that improves indexing infrastructure.
In fact they have trial run Caffeine at a data center and feedbacks have been positive according to Google engineer and head of webspam team Matt Cutts.
According to Google, Caffeine will improve the speed, accuracy, size, and comprehensiveness of Google search. In other words, ranking algorithm is becoming increasingly complicated and merely getting backlinks will no longer be sufficient to push a site’s ranking up the SERP.

Well I think google changes how they rate a site from time to time. One time google reads this and put more value or weight on it and after sometime google changes their criteria on how to rate a site.

It sure seems that once you figure out what Google wants they decide to change the rules. I sometimes wonder if their true intent is to try and get a more relevant search result.

Hi Kenneth, yeah, I think Google is looking for more ways on how they rate a website and I’ve heard also about google caffeine. It’s a good step for google, I think this will improve the quality of our searches, on the other hand, website owners are also moving a step forward on getting on top of the rankings, It still depends on a good SEO strategy, what your website can offer and how what you can do to keep visitors coming back.

Google’s strategies and yardsticks keep on changing for a probable reason that they need the ‘actual’ stuff to show in their searches and not only the ‘manipulated’ ones.
Quality if of utmost importance and the time has come now that we have this variable as a fixed one for google searches

Great blog. I am very new to blogging and seo and still have a lot to learn. I have been looking for good resources but a lot of them turn out to be very spammy or want you to purchase something.. I am interested in outsourcing some seo but i need to learn for myself first.

Nice post - Google is updating their base every minute and it’s normal to update and the criteria for our web-sites.

It seems each time Google comes up with new rules the webmasters have to jump though the hoops again. Not that it’s a bad thing for the search users.

Hi Kenneth,
Google has always put emphasis on site quality. It’s just that now they have better tools than before to check it.
I think that if you read Google’s webmasters guidelines a year or two ago they were emphasizing quality then as they do now.
It is arguable if the emphasis is now stronger than before. But no matter what, SEO and links will always be part of the formula.
I like your post because it helps everybody realize that the quality of content is very important.

The fact that Google is giving precedent to better sites, as opposed to better optimized sites, is a great one.
It’s a good step for Google and for search in general.

This is really new to me. When the development is changing at such a rate as it seems, can we even expect to pay our way out of the SEO jungle through experts? Do they even know what is going on?

This was really interesting to watch… time on site, etc. It will be interesting to see how SEO changes.

I think as we move forward sure there may be more and more emphasis on high quality websites, but from a programing stand point it just seems to tough with all the billions and billions of websites out there to manage all of that data, I am not sure how complex it really can get…
Till then,
Jean

Google has been telling us about their intent to increase the importance of site quality for ages. So far I see only basics, relevant content, page loading speed, and link quality throughout the site and incoming links.
