All the chemicals and salt that you accumulate in you hair when you jump into a pool or an ocean are also included. To keep such things away from your hair, it is advisable to use plenty of water. Before you go swimming, you can use tap water to rinse your hair or bottled water if you are already outdoors. By doing this, you will be leaving no room for such harmful compounds to fill since the rinse will have already taken a the space.

Just like your skin, your hair and scalp need sunscreen too. Your type of hair is what determines the amount of damage that is done to your hair by UVB and UVA rays. If you have had your hair dyed, it is also going to get damaged since these rays oxidize the color.
